In a previous article on echinodermata.be, there was a report of an unidentified ophiuroid that was found on a ragged-tooth shark listening station at Sodwana Bay, South Africa. This little Ophiothricidae has been subsequently identified as Ophiothrix (Ophiothrix) foveolata Marktanner, 1887 together with Frank Rowe. This little beast has been recorded in Mozambique, Maldives, Philippines and Madagascar but never South Africa! This is an interesting find and goes to show that these little critter just need to be found. I would like to also extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Frank for his endless patience and assistance.
